Athens is a beautiful capital to explore every month of the year. It is full of ancient Greek sites to learn how the Greeks used to live and also full of new and stylish areas with plenty of famous restaurants to taste the delicious local cuisine.
Unfortunately, Athens city centre is not all a safe area. Most of the time, when booking accommodation in the city centre, we think to be indeed in a secure place.
In an area where to go out at every time of the day and night without having to worry much about crimes and other terrible things and situations that can ruin our vacation.
Not all the central districts are safe in Athens but don't worry, I have listed some of the best on a budget accommodation situated in secure areas.
These accommodations are all in the city centre, far from the dangerous districts, to ensure that you will sleep wonderfully at night in a safe place.
These are the safest area in Athens where to look for accommodation and walk around exploring:
Thissio
Plaka
Pagrakti
Siggrou Fix
Monastiraki
Zografou
Neos Kosmos
Koukaki
Ano Patisia
Megaro Mousikis
Remember that being safe is one of the most important things while travelling. Be constantly vigilant of what happens around you, even in the safest place.
These are the most dangerous Athens district to avoid, where daily drug uses and crime happen daily:
Omnia during the night. During the day Omnia is full of shops, bars and good restaurants
Kolokotroni Square
The lower side of Kolonos
Agio Panteleimomas
Metaxourgio back streets
Exarcheia
Vathi
So let's check out the best low budget accommodations I have found for you to make you save money but still have a wonderful time in the beautiful Athen.
These accommodations are situated in the city centre, have all 24 hours desk service, breakfast included, a hairdryer, air-conditioned and wifi.
Prices are between 35 to 80 euros for a double room per night during the springtime (summer prices are much higher but if you want to travel with a low budget, I highly recommend you to avoid the warmer months).
You can find even cheaper accommodations, but they are probably situated in not so safe areas.
In my opinion, I prefer to spend a little bit more, but be safe instead of risking something happening to me while going back to my accommodation at night only to save some money.
