The Capital of Greece, the city of Athens, is a capital often put aside by tourists who prefer to visit only the islands of this beautiful country.
If you are planning a holiday in Greece, please, do a favor to yourself and book at least 3 days in Athens. There are so many things to see in Athens, local cuisine to taste and friendly locals to meet; you will love the time you spend there. After exploring Athens, you can always catch a ferry to travel from Athens to Santorini, Mykonos or any other beautiful Greek island.
Athens tourist attractions are ancient and beautiful, also very cheap, and some of them free of charge.
Enjoy Athens as it deserves!
Let's Discover Athens together...
Many tourists decide to visit Athens before to explore some islands and that is precisely what I did when I went to Greece.
The city of Athens is very big, but most of the famous Athens tourist attractions are in the city centre.
The best way to explore it is by walking around.
Book accommodation near the city centre so you won't need to use public transport and reach all the most famous areas by walking.
This is what I did and I really enjoyed it.
Are you in?
Flights to Athens are much cheaper than to Santorini or Mykonos, so if you visit Greece in summer, why not book a couple of nights in this full of history capital and see what it has to offer?
You won't regret it and you will thank me for the advice.
Athens has the Acropoli with its pantheon, fantastic city views, delicious Greek food, and stunning places to visit. It would be such a shame to miss it.
is Athens expensive?
is Athens a walkable city?
Athens is quite cheap, mostly from November to March when museums and attractions prices are discounted.
Eating out can be as cheap as 5 euros and the Greek food is absolutely fantastic and healthy.

when is the best time to visit athens?
I went to Athens in September, and the temperature was still pretty high.
Summer in Greece is very hot and crowded with tourists that fly to Athens to visit it for a couple of days before heading to the islands.
Winters in Greece can be pretty cold and windy. Unless you like cold weather, I highly recommend you visit Athens during Spring and Autumn.
If you plan to visit historic places, like the Acropolis and Greek museums, remember that most museums' tickets cost 50% less during the winter season.
The Acropolis costs 20 euros, but from the 1 of November until the 31 of March, it costs only 10 euros.
Winter could be a good solution to save some money if you don't care much about walking all day in colder weather.
Also, flight tickets are crazy cheap during the winter season, and all the hotels will be available to be booked, while during summer, they get fully booked pretty fast.
